Designers in the house

Four fresh-faced designers have been welcomed into the Design Museum’s 2013 Designers in Residence program.

Design is not merely the product of a designer but it also can convey, create and reflect a sense of identity. This is the idea fused into the Designers in Residence program this year.

Adam Nathaniel Furman, Eunhee Jo, Chloe Meineck and Thomas Thwaites were announced in May as this year’s participants in the program. With design plans ranging from blogs and films exploring globalised mass culture, to an interactive, web-based ‘self-help book’ exploring the internet’s role in shaping how we view ourselves, each designer is navigating the dense topic of identity with originality and innovation. The collection of designs will be displayed at the museum from September 2013.

As part of the program, the selected designers will also participate in the museum’s various learning and curating activities.

The overall vision of the annual Designers in Residence program is to celebrate and support emerging designers. For six years this opportunity, offered by the world’s leading museum in architecture and industrial design, has aided many designers as they embark on establishing their passion as a career.
