Wooden Furniture Made from Every Last Scrap

Maximising the use of natural materials waste, Disrupt.Design Lab (D.DLAB) has explored avenues to develop a circular solution for wood. By developing new techniques that professionals in the industry can take on board when crafting wooden elements, D.DLAB has created the WoodenWood Project that aims to combine advanced fabrication and traditional methods of using wood to lead to a zero-waste industry.

The WoodenWood Project involves utilising wood waste to create wooden elements such as seating. The system created by D.DLAB uses a combination of raw wood components and 3D printed “wood textile” to create wood designs. The WoodenWood Project gives multiple forms of material waste a new life instead of being thrown away.

Demonstrating how WoodenWood can be used, D.DLAB developed an ergonomic seating range. From 3D printed “wood textile” that is used as the mesh for the seat and back, to combining Daika and raw wood scraps to create the base and legs of the furniture, D.DLAB were able to produce a biodegradable, eco-friendly furniture range using every last bit of the materials form.

Featured at Milan Design Week 2023, the WoodenWood Project is a grand demonstration to leading professionals in the industry on how to create bespoke designs that are environmentally-friendly in its production and showcase the raw beauty of natural materials.
