Flexibility in the home has reached new heights with Tom Dixon’s portable lamps.

When it comes to interior design, variation in lighting has always been difficult. The layout of overhead lights isn’t easily altered and the placement of a lamp is determined by how far the extension cord can go. Tom Dixon is looking to change that, with his development of a cordless table lamp.

Dixon’s eponymous houseware brand have released the PORTABLE collection, combining contemporary design with technological advancement. Taking his three most popular lamp designs, the Melt, Bell and Stone, Dixon has paired them with battery power and low-energy LEDs, allowing for nine hours of light that can move with you. “If there is one thing that characterises the rapidly changing world that we inhabit, it is mobility – the way we live and work and play is dominated by an increased need for portability and flexibility,” said Dixon

Dixon’s shift to portability and flexibility is further compounded in the PORTABLE range. With this new collection, Dixon has focused on the expansion of functionality of existing designs, rather than releasing new products — the products themselves are changing and adapting.

Now available with three dimmable settings and four finishes – gold, silver, copper or black metal – the Portable series allows for ultimate diversity in illumination.
