Chandon Australia, renowned for its exquisite sparkling wines, has unveiled a stunning new cellar door and restaurant in the picturesque Yarra Valley.
The project aimed to revitalize the site to match the quality of Chandon’s offerings and heritage, blending its French origins with its Australian setting to create an immersive brand experience for visitors.
The redesign was a strategic endeavour focusing on enhancing the customer journey and extending their stay beyond quick tastings. The original architecture, characterized by voluminous barrel-vaulted ceilings, was retained but underwent subtle modifications to manage acoustics and delineate functional zones effectively.
One of the key challenges addressed was the disjointed layout that led to a chaotic atmosphere, prompting visitors to rush through their visits. To combat this, the designers reimagined the bar experience, creating two distinct areas: an intimate tasting room and an airy lounge bar. Private tasting rooms were integrated into mezzanine spaces, offering a more exclusive experience for larger groups, while the terrace was expanded to showcase the breathtaking vineyard views.
A crucial aspect of the redesign was the integration of retail spaces seamlessly into the customer journey. Inspired by luxury retail experiences akin to Louis Vuitton stores, the designers employed innovative metalwork techniques to develop bespoke joinery for displaying Chandon’s products. These included framed bubble-inspired discs for bottle displays, folded and curved storage systems, and portable merchandising plinths resembling abstracted wine corks, elevating the retail experience to new heights.
By strategically positioning the retail area between the lounge bar and brasserie, patrons are encouraged to explore and engage with Chandon’s products naturally. This fluid integration not only enhances the overall customer experience but also showcases Chandon’s offerings in a creatively elevated setting.
The new Chandon Australia cellar door and restaurant not only reflect the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation but also offer visitors a captivating journey through its rich heritage and exceptional products. This revitalized space is set to become a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts and design aficionados alike in the Yarra Valley.
