Park House Food Merchants unveils stunning refurbishment at Mona Vale Hotel

Sydney’s Northern Beaches are now home to a spectacular dining experience as the newly refurbished Park House Food Merchants opens its doors within the revamped Mona Vale hotel.

Boasting a seating capacity for 200 guests, this restaurant represents a harmonious blend of vintage charm and modern aesthetics.

Designed as a loft-style art warehouse, Park House Food Merchants pays homage to the old motel’s history while infusing it with a contemporary twist. Drawing inspiration from Donald Judd’s minimalist approach and Scandinavian modernism, the space features internal double-height dining areas, an external courtyard with retractable roofs, private dining rooms, open and external fireplaces, and a well-equipped open kitchen and cocktail bar.

The refurbishment project, led by Alexander &CO., showcases a meticulous attention to detail. The team explored various masonry forms, incorporated recycled brick arches in the open show kitchen, and exposed existing steel and timber structures to create a dynamic double-story volume. Custom high bay pendants and oversized paintings add a touch of artistry to the loft-like atmosphere.

Internally, polished concrete floors meet Carrara mosaic tiles and stone chequer plate tile coursing, creating a visually striking yet functional space. Externally, stacked logs and a double-sided fireplace anchor the lounge areas, complemented by suspended fairy lights that illuminate the double-height courtyard.

What sets Park House Food Merchants apart is its commitment to sustainability and minimal waste. The project prioritized using base build materials and repurposed furniture and fittings, embodying a ‘found’ quality that is both inviting and environmentally conscious.

This adaptive reuse project not only breathes new life into a dilapidated structure but also serves as a cornerstone of the Mona Vale precinct’s revitalization. As part of a larger gateway project, the venue aims to reintroduce the community to the area, catering to a diverse range of patrons and solidifying its role as a vibrant social hub.

With its stunning refurbishment and thoughtful design, Park House Food Merchants invites guests to indulge in a unique dining experience that seamlessly blends nostalgia with contemporary flair.
