Paco's Tacos unveils vibrant mexican-inspired design in Melbourne

Technē Architecture and Interior Design has once again proven its prowess in creating immersive and culturally rich spaces with the unveiling of Paco’s Tacos’ latest restaurant design.

Embracing the lively and colourful essence of Mexican culture, the new establishment blends traditional elements with a contemporary twist, inviting diners into a vibrant culinary experience.

The design journey began with a clear vision outlined in the brief: to encapsulate the original yellow, bright, and fun aesthetic of Paco’s Tacos’ CBD store while embodying the authenticity of a Mexican eatery. Drawing inspiration from the renowned Mexican architect Luis Barragán, the space is meticulously crafted to evoke the ambiance of an open-air piazza, a nod to the conviviality and warmth of Mexican hospitality.

One of the standout features of the restaurant is the striking division created by large timber and reo mesh arches, cleverly playing with scale within the 200 square meter floor plan. Banquette seating lines the dining area, offering a range of configurations to accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger parties seamlessly.

The colour palette is a celebration of Mexico’s vibrant architectural landscape, with block shades of pink, blue, and yellow adorning each zone between the arches. This infusion of hues not only adds visual interest but also pays homage to the colorful facades synonymous with Mexican architecture.

Jonny Mitchell, senior interior designer at Technē, highlights the collaborative effort with the client, ensuring that the design harmonizes with Paco’s Tacos’ brand identity and culinary offerings. “We used reo mesh and an abundance of yellow to connect with the original site, while introducing softness with pink and blue tones,” Mitchell explains, underscoring the nuanced balance achieved in the design.

Technē’s collaboration extended beyond interior design, partnering with landscape architects Ayus Botanical to create a verdant oasis within the restaurant. The incorporation of green space and thoughtful planting enhances the courtyard-like ambiance, contributing to a sustainable and inviting environment for patrons.

Adding to the immersive experience are fun touches such as a projector screening old Mexican movies, further amplifying the playful and engaging nature of Mexican dining. With a keen focus on durability and comfort, Technē has crafted a space that not only delights the senses but also stands the test of time, embodying the essence of Paco’s Tacos’ colourful and authentic culinary journey.
