$19.5M pink refit to transform West Perth office

Gina Rinehart, Australia’s wealthiest mining magnate, is set to make waves with a $19.5 million office refit in West Perth.

With planning approval secured for the Roy Hill headquarters’ relocation, the bold renovation will see the building at 53 Ord Street undergo a dramatic transformation, featuring a distinctive exterior clad in pink petal-shaped fins.

This striking addition reflects Rinehart’s vision to revitalise West Perth and make a statement in more ways than one.

The five-storey office, purchased for $60 million in 2022, was originally home to oil and gas giant Santos and designed by Bollig Design Group. Built by Pivot Group in 2002, its sturdy precast concrete beams and hollowcore planks are set to gain new life as part of the ambitious redevelopment. But it’s not just the building’s structural integrity that will stand out. The pink fins on the facade, symbolising breast cancer awareness, also have personal significance for Rinehart, whose mother, Hope, passed away from the disease in 1983.

Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting has been snapping up office buildings in West Perth at an impressive rate. She now owns six in total, five of which were acquired in a $100 million spending spree over just 20 months. These strategic acquisitions have played a key role in the commercial resurgence of West Perth, transforming it into a vibrant hub for business once again.

The bold exterior of the refit will not only add a unique aesthetic to the area but will also highlight the power of colour in commercial design. Rinehart’s commitment to breast cancer awareness is already well known, with her Roy Hill operations featuring fleets of pink trucks, locomotives, and mining equipment. The new headquarters will be a testament to her vision, blending business ambition with a personal cause.
