Stasia Office Proposal Gains Momentum

Stasia Holdings Pty Ltd is forging ahead with its ambitious office development at 232-240 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, near Sydney’s bustling Central Train Station. After initial delays, the project now includes an additional storey of office space, boosting the total to 6339sqm, with 2000sqm added to sweeten the deal for prospective tenants.

Designed by Candalepas Associates, the proposal introduces a striking addition to the area’s urban fabric. A new laneway will connect Reservoir Street and Foster Lane, enhancing pedestrian access across the 906sqm site. Currently occupied by two and three-storey terrace buildings that have housed retail spaces, the site will be transformed into a contemporary commercial hub.

The plans come as part of the Tech Central initiative, positioning the area as a thriving employment cluster for knowledge-intensive industries. The council’s planning report highlights the project’s alignment with the precinct’s goals, supporting sectors such as health, education, creative industries, and professional services.

The journey to this point has been eventful. Originally envisioned as a mixed-use development by Patglen, with concept plans approved in 2017 for a hotel, retail, and residential space, the site changed hands in 2020. Stasia acquired the property and began reimagining its future, filing the current proposal earlier this year.

The project replaces five heavily modified terrace buildings, making way for a state-of-the-art commercial space that shares boundaries with a nine-storey residential building to the north and a six-storey commercial building to the east.

As Tech Central tenants prepare to move in, Stasia’s development promises to bring a modern edge to Surry Hills, blending innovative design with functionality in one of Sydney’s most dynamic neighbourhoods.
