STAIN-PROOF Sealing Completes Greensborough Station Upgrade

Final sealing works at Greensborough Station have treated over 2000 square metres of exposed and finished concrete with a durable, low-maintenance finish, completing the renewal of one of the precinct’s most prominent public areas.

STAIN-PROOF Premium Impregnating Sealer was the specified product for the project, selected for its deep-penetrating, invisible protection and long-term performance. Backed by a 15-year warranty, the treatment will help to defend the station surrounds against efflorescence, salt damage, freeze-thaw and staining, reducing maintenance needs and preserving the concrete’s natural colour and finish.

Melbourne-based surface specialists Clean Seal Stone Care were engaged to protect key concrete elements of the station’s exterior with a product that could withstand heavy foot traffic and environmental demands, all while retaining the station’s natural appearance.

STAIN-PROOF’s impregnating sealer is an invisible form of silicone, dispersed in a carrier which can be water-based, oil-based or solvent-based. The treatment helps protect porous surfaces from the ingress of impurities through liquids and their movements, while retaining the natural look of the material. Suitable for most hard porous surfaces, including concrete, masonry, natural stone and benchtops, it improves performance and extends surface lifespan, making it well-suited for high-traffic public infrastructure projects.

The facade’s sealing complements the station’s recent wider redevelopment, delivered as part of the Hurstbridge’s Line Duplication project. The upgraded Greensborough Station reopened to passengers in mid-2023, with an emphasis on natural finishes, improved accessibility and better connections to community spaces and public transport. Additional works, including car parking and landscaping, were completed in late-2024.

As part of the final stages of delivery, this contribution adds another layer of longevity to the newly completed precinct. With the station now fully operational, the concrete sealant helps ensure surrounding surfaces meet the practical demands of public use, while preserving their natural appearance and visual quality well into the future.
