This rooftop bar nestled in the vibrant heart of Fremantle, Western Australia, was grappling with a significant issue—its flooring had fallen into a state of disrepair. The once pristine outdoor flooring had deteriorated, becoming marred by unsightly discolouration and decay that detracted from the space’s visual appeal and posed a significant threat to the underlying waterproof membrane. Replacing the expansive 200m2 flooring area presented a daunting challenge, with restricted access, the high cost and potential disruption to the existing waterproofing structure posing significant concerns.

After much analysis of all available options, the hotel owners decided that the most practical and innovative approach would be to install NexGEN Capped Composite PermaTech® Decking over the existing flooring without compromising the integrity of the waterproof membrane. This groundbreaking solution harnessed the power of the Weatherstrip and DeckCell products, allowing the decking to elegantly ‘float’ on top of the pre-existing surface without compromising the membrane beneath. The Weatherstrip meticulously sealed the gaps between the capped composite deck boards, ensuring that no trace of water could penetrate through to the membrane below. Furthermore, the ingenious design of this system allowed for easy removal, simplifying any future maintenance or membrane servicing.
