An Ocean Inspired Holiday Home Renovation

This revitalisation of a 22 year old Surfers Paradise unit, which is mostly used for holiday letting is a sight to behold. Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central was the builder responsible for the revitalisation of this Surfers Paradise unit, which is mostly used for holiday letting.

Looking to completely renovate the 22-year-old unit, the owners — retirees from Melbourne — are enthusiastic travellers who use the unit as a holiday retreat. As such, they opted for a calm coastal interior aesthetic that welcomes Quantum Quartz Ultra White 20mm benchtops and Laminex Aquamarine laminate in the Bosch-equipped kitchen. Truly a holiday home renovation success with a beachside appeal.

Holiday Renovation Success

“Located in a beachfront building, it was important that the unit reflected the subtropical beach feel and lifestyle of the Gold Coast. Brave colours were chosen for cabinetry and benchtops and these choices paid off when furnishings were added,” says Neil Whittred, builder and owner of Smith & Sons Gold Coast Central. “Our team completely renovated the unit, which consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sitting room and open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. The sitting room can now be closed off by Luxaflex plantation shutters to create a temporary third bedroom, and all general living floors were tiled with timber-look tiles.” To support the bifold plantation shutters in the sitting room, Smith & Sons has cleverly constructed a bulkhead between the existing bulkheads.

The timber plank tiled floors are the standout, particularly when combined with the beautiful plantation shutters. In the bathroom, Calacatta matt floor tiles collide with high-gloss rectified wall tiles and custom vanities for a five-star bathing experience. Energy-efficient lighting and fans reduce power bills and minimise the building’s impact on the environment. “With no interior designer in sight, the finished product is a standout for a relatively low-cost unit renovation,” concludes Neil.
