Renowned advertising figure John “Singo” Singleton is set to make waves in the hospitality industry with ambitious plans to transform the Elanora Hotel on the Central Coast.
Singleton’s investment arm, Bonython, acquired the Elanora Hotel in 2019 for approximately $25 million, securing a substantial 7775sq m site including an adjoining block.
The visionary $32-million project aims to extend and revamp “The Elly,” replacing aging structures such as a former motel, car park, drive-through bottle shop, and carwash located at 16-20 Brougham, 29-45 Victoria, and 27 Adelaide streets in East Gosford. The revitalization plan involves the demolition of existing buildings to pave the way for a modern three-storey motel featuring 60 rooms. The expansion will also include a drive-through bottle shop, ample car parking areas, and an extension to the hotel on the north-east side of the site.
The proposed development is expected to double the Elanora Hotel’s gross floor area to an impressive 2300sq m, marking a significant transformation for the site. The architectural vision, conceptualized by Loopcreative, envisions a modern aesthetic with a light-coloured brick finish and vertical articulation along Adelaide Street.
The Elanora Hotel project not only promises a contemporary and vibrant addition to the Gosford landscape but also reflects Singleton’s commitment to elevating the local hospitality scene. The investment underscores Singleton’s strategic approach to real estate and his confidence in the growth potential of the Central Coast region.
Since Bonython’s acquisition of the Elanora Hotel, Singleton has been keen on maximizing the site’s potential, and the $32-million extension plans are poised to set a new standard for hospitality offerings in the area. The proposed development aligns with the broader trend of revitalizing and modernizing existing properties to meet the evolving needs of residents and visitors.
As plans progress, the community eagerly anticipates the positive economic impact and job creation that will accompany the construction and operation of the expanded Elanora Hotel. Singleton’s venture into the hospitality sector is not only a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit but also an exciting prospect for those in the building, construction, design, and architecture industries closely watching the transformation unfold in Gosford.
