The Malin Debuts in East Austin with a Blend of Light and Dark Workspaces

Co-working brand The Malin has unveiled its first Texas location in East Austin, introducing a carefully designed space that balances bright, open work areas with intimate, richly coloured lounges. Located in a modernist-style building by local architectural firm Chioco, the 12,000-square-foot venue marks The Malin’s sixth U.S. hub and its most southern outpost to date.

Known for crafting work environments with a residential feel, The Malin’s in-house design team has created a space that combines functionality with sophistication. Custom-designed furniture fills the club, complemented by curated objects, greenery, and lighting from brands such as Blue Green Works and Bocci. This meticulous approach ensures the club appeals to East Austin’s dynamic community of remote workers, tech entrepreneurs, and startups.

“Our aim is to provide a workspace that is as dynamic as the multi-faceted city itself, supporting and inspiring their most ambitious professionals,” said Ciarán McGuigan, founder and CEO of The Malin.

The interior design showcases a warm, sumptuous palette. Neutral-toned open areas contrast with dark green and deep purple spaces, featuring luxurious velvet and mohair upholstery. The design evokes “the calming hours before daybreak,” according to the team, with rich burgundy and eggplant shades lending a sophisticated atmosphere.

Members are greeted by a striking reception desk wrapped in rounded wooden bands and topped with veined stone. Behind it, niches in the shelving are lined with claret-coloured zellige tiles and adorned with ceramic vessels.

Flexible workspace options include communal tables paired with cushioned armchairs, textured banquettes, and cosy sofas. For more private needs, dedicated desks, small offices, and boardrooms are available, along with reservable private spaces.

This expansion into East Austin follows The Malin’s recent openings in Nashville and its established presence in New York City, where clubs in Soho, NoMad, and Williamsburg have attracted a loyal following. With plans for another location in Savannah, The Malin continues to blend functionality and design across its growing network of co-working spaces.
