Miru Collection unveils eco-friendly villas on Amami Oshima

Japanese hospitality group Miru Collection has introduced two stunning additions to its portfolio with the Seascape and Bayview Villas on Amami Oshima, designed by local architecture studio ADX.

These villas, nestled in a secluded part of the island, blend effortlessly into the lush, subtropical landscape, offering guests an intimate escape amid a World Natural Heritage site.

Each villa features a distinctive stilted, cave-like wooden design, with large, arched windows that invite natural light into the space. From a distance, the structures seem to coexist seamlessly with the forested surroundings, preserving the beauty of the island’s natural environment. The elevated positioning of the villas not only allows for breathtaking views of the bay and mountains but also plays a critical role in the eco-conscious construction methods adopted by ADX.

In line with sustainable practices, the villas are built using high-floor and independent foundation techniques to minimise concrete use, significantly reducing the environmental impact on the heritage site. This design approach also ensures that the land’s natural water flow remains undisturbed, protects local wildlife, and mitigates potential disaster risks. The villas appear as an organic part of the island’s unique terrain, emphasising a strong connection between architecture and nature.

For guests seeking privacy and luxury, the Seascape Villa offers the added indulgence of a private pool. Both villas offer an experience that blends modern comforts with a deep respect for the surrounding ecosystem, creating a tranquil and immersive retreat. Miru Collection’s latest additions showcase how thoughtful design can harmonise with nature, providing an unforgettable experience for those visiting Amami Oshima.
