NASU CAVE: A unique hospitality concept blending nature and architecture

In a serene corner of Japan’s Tochigi prefecture, architecture group Suppose Design Office unveils NASU CAVE, the latest addition to the innovative NOT A HOTEL hospitality series.

Nestled within a natural plateau, NASU CAVE spans three floors, offering breathtaking views of a sprawling garden and nearby ranchlands where horses roam freely.

This pet-friendly retreat redefines luxury with its array of amenities. Guests can indulge in three private bedrooms, each designed to maximise natural light and scenic vistas. The highlight of NASU CAVE is its expansive bath experience—a cavernous cold bath, enveloped in darkness, invites guests to unwind while mesmerised by the gentle flicker of water. Adjacent is a sunlit glass-enclosed sauna that frames the outdoor scenery, complemented by a sprawling nine-meter infinity pool nestled amidst lush foliage.

Privacy is paramount at NASU CAVE, maintained seamlessly across its design. Each bedroom offers a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape; one features slanted windows that offer stargazing views, ensuring a restful night under the open sky. The living-dining room opens onto a second-floor terrace with a fireplace, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor living spaces for up to six guests.

Architecturally, NASU CAVE showcases a blend of modernity and natural harmony. The exterior and interior walls are meticulously coated with Moltex, a handcrafted material that creates an uneven texture, blending the structure into its environment over time. This approach not only enhances the building’s aesthetic presence but also ensures it harmonises with the changing seasons and surrounding scenery.

With NASU CAVE, Suppose Design Office continues to push boundaries in hospitality design, offering guests a sanctuary where architecture and nature converge harmoniously. Whether soaking in the natural hot spring or lounging on the terrace, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a tranquil escape where every detail speaks to the beauty of its surroundings.
