21 March 2024: Swiss premium home appliance designer and manufacturer V-ZUG has today launched its first Sydney-based studio, located in the leafy streets of Surry Hills.
The boutique Premium Swiss Home Appliance brand, V-ZUG is renowned as one of Europe’s most sustainable, with V-ZUG proudly 100% carbon neutral in production since 2020.
Taking influence from its existing showrooms around the globe, V-ZUG’s brand-new studio champions circular ‘lifelong’ sustainability, incorporating materials and finishes selected for their quality and sustainability ethos. Wherever possible, in line with the brand’s lived values, materials have been sourced locally or incorporate recycled, circular elements, resulting in some of the best energy appliance ratings in the industry – staying true to the Swiss culture of efficiency and precision.
V-ZUG is so committed to sustainability that when carbon emissions are unavoidable in the manufacturing process, V-ZUG will offset with carbon credits, and charge itself an internal tax of CHF 120/tCO2. This unique approach then funds future fresh carbon-reducing initiatives. Each element used to curate the two-storey classic terrace building’s interior has been hand-picked by V-ZUG’s team to interpret and embrace its local Sydney surroundings. The interior has kept its existing exposed brickwork, as well as the timber ceiling on the ground level paying homage to the original building, merging the old with the new.
The space has been created with a tonal palette and includes commissioned local Sydney-based designers to add a touch of ‘coastal’ life to the studio. Beyond showcasing V-ZUG’s range of design-led products that were manufactured to contribute to a future-fit society, the homely space includes homewares from local climate-neutral brand Mud Australia, local favourite Dinosaur Designs and minimalist furniture from renowned, boundary-pushing global designers Vincent Van Duysen, Pedro Paulo-Venzon, Jorge Pensi, John Pawson, and Elisa Ossino. The designers that partner with V-ZUG always share similar values across aspects of design, sustainability and small-scale production. Behind the innovative studio is V-ZUG’s Global Interior Art Director, Gabriel Castelló, boasting extensive knowledge and experience across passive and circular design.
Pinyon has been integral to the design and success of V-ZUG’s existing mono-brand studios in London, Paris, Milan, Vienna, Copenhagen, Munich, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Gabriel Castelló said: “The concept of V-ZUG is always to try to be local. I think it’s important because whatever we put into our space speaks about us. Our V-ZUG Studio Sydney is very different to others around the world, and we can’t wait for Sydney-siders to experience it for themselves.” V-ZUG Managing Director, Nic Naes said: “As the only Swiss-founded household appliance designer and manufacturer in the world, V-ZUG has been reliably making life easier since 1913 with state-of-the-art products that don’t compromise on sustainability and environmental aspects.
Innovative technologies, intuitive operation and minimalist design are among the signature features of our pioneer products that are handcrafted in our carbon-neutral production facilities in Switzerland. “After successfully launching a series of studios across Europe, it was about time we brought our Swiss essence of entertaining and living to Sydney. As a vibrant, stylish city, it felt a natural fit to craft a studio set up for the Australian market to experience our innovative Swiss-founded product range.
We hope the space inspires visitors to invest in V-ZUG’s leading sustainable craftsmanship.” V-ZUG’s Sydney Studio will also provide an opportunity for visitors to experience its newest appliances, each of which utilise elements of repairability, low energy and water consumption in use, and modular design to enhance circularity. The new range includes V-ZUG’s industry-first 90cm combination steam oven (CombiSteamer V6000 45L Grand), a full-fledged combination steam oven with fully integrated and unique microwave technology (CombiSteamer V6000 45M PowerSteam), and the latest iteration of its innovative and versatile cooktop (CookTop V6000 FullFlex).
The V-ZUG Studio Sydney is located at 90 Fitzroy Street, Surry Hills, and is now open by appointment, Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.
