In the heart of Minneapolis, a dynamic transformation has taken place, where innovation meets history, and modern design seamlessly blends with a touch of nostalgia.
Our Family Wizard, a leading tech company, entrusted the locally based Studio BV with the creation of their new offices within the captivating walls of a former biscuit factory.
The result? A remarkable space that fuses cutting-edge elements with the building’s heritage, offering employees and visitors an experience like no other.
Upon stepping foot inside the 40,000-square-foot (3,700-square-metre) offices, one is immediately struck by the play of light and shadow, masterfully orchestrated by Studio BV’s expert designers. The clever use of industrial-style windows floods the space with natural light, allowing it to cascade across the exposed brick walls and rustic wooden beams, which have been artfully restored to maintain the building’s authentic charm.
Striking a harmonious balance between modernity and tradition, the lighting concept in the office plays a pivotal role in creating the desired ambiance. A combination of sleek pendant lights, suspended from the high ceilings, and strategically placed floor lamps not only provides ample illumination but also adds a touch of contemporary flair to the surroundings. Dimmable LED fixtures have been thoughtfully integrated, offering the flexibility to tailor the lighting levels according to different tasks and moods, ultimately enhancing productivity and comfort for the team.
Studio BV’s approach to style and design has resulted in a space that reflects the ethos of Our Family Wizard as a forward-thinking tech company while celebrating the site’s historic roots. The interior showcases an open-concept layout that encourages collaboration and communication among team members. Clean lines, minimalist furniture, and neutral colour palettes complement the raw industrial elements, keeping the focus on the building’s unique features.
“The unique character of this historic building is enhanced by the new office and amenity areas,” said Studio BV founder and CEO, Betsy Vohs. “The old historic ovens and openings are used to connect people between the floors. The large volume of space is flooded with daylight from the large windows and clerestory glass.”
To pay homage to the building’s biscuit factory heritage, Studio BV incorporated subtle nods throughout the space. Repurposed vintage machinery serves as intriguing art installations, bridging the gap between the past and the present. Rustic wooden panels adorned with faded advertisements from the factory’s heyday adorn certain walls, acting as a conversation starter and igniting a sense of nostalgia among visitors and staff alike.
Moreover, Studio BV’s commitment to sustainability shines through in the choice of materials and furniture. Upcycled elements, eco-friendly fabrics, and locally sourced products demonstrate an understanding of the environmental impact, further cementing Our Family Wizard’s reputation as a socially responsible company.
The Our Family Wizard offices in the former biscuit factory not only stand as a testament to inventive office design but also embody the spirit of a company that values its roots while reaching for the future. Studio BV’s transformation has resulted in a space that effortlessly weaves together the old and the new, creating an atmosphere that inspires creativity, fosters collaboration, and leaves a lasting impression on all who enter.
