A Vision of Slimline Luxury by Barber Osgerby for AXOR

AXOR’s ‘Make it yours!’ campaign has inspired a new approach to bathroom design, with renowned London-based studio Barber Osgerby unveiling ‘Skyline’—a striking concept for a compact yet luxurious bathroom within a London penthouse.

Prioritising light, colour, and intelligent spatial solutions, the design redefines modern urban living without compromising on indulgence.

Barber Osgerby, the acclaimed design duo of Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, are known for their meticulous approach to materiality and form. In ‘Skyline,’ they apply this philosophy to a 7m² bathroom, seamlessly integrating AXOR One fixtures and AXOR Universal Circular Accessories in a refined Matt White finish. The result is a sophisticated and efficient space that rethinks the limitations of smaller bathrooms.

‘The project was inspired by the move towards more compact living,’ explains Jay Osgerby. ‘It’s a move away from the huge, lounging, spa-style bathrooms that we’ve come to know from the top-end of the market over the last few years, into creatively addressing compact spaces, particularly in urban environments. It’s about being clever with the space, by flooding it with light and offering views.’

Light plays a crucial role in the design, with a large floor-to-ceiling window and an overhead skylight maximising natural illumination. These elements enhance the sense of openness, making the bathroom feel more expansive despite its compact footprint.

Colour also takes centre stage in ‘Skyline,’ with an all-over monochrome green palette, achieved through the use of tiles from Barber Osgerby’s Primavera collection for Mutina. This soothing shade not only references nature but also serves to unify the space, creating a serene and cohesive atmosphere. The bold contrast between the green tiles and the Matt White AXOR fixtures adds a striking visual element, reinforcing the bathroom’s refined aesthetic.

‘The tendency is often—particularly at the moment—that you paint one wall in one colour, you leave another wall in another colour, and you have a big picture on the other wall. In a compact space, it doesn’t really work,’ says Osgerby. ‘In terms of colour theory, green is obviously the most calming colour. It’s a reference to nature.’

This emphasis on personalisation aligns with AXOR’s ethos of individualised design. The Matt White finish extends across all fixtures, from the washbasin faucet to the thermostatic module, ensuring a harmonious and uncluttered aesthetic. Even the smallest details, such as towel hooks, shelves, and the AXOR Drain, contribute to a sense of seamless cohesion.

With ‘Skyline,’ Barber Osgerby have created a bathroom concept that exemplifies both functional ingenuity and timeless elegance. By merging compact practicality with a strong visual identity, they demonstrate how luxury can thrive even in the most spatially challenging urban environments.
